Staff
Tim Nicholls
Besides spending lots of time on the water, Tim maintains all our kayaks and bicycles to keep them in perfect working order. Tim's extensive travels in the last few years have included a winter of paddling in Vietnam, five months' cycle touring in New Zealand and four months cycling in Australia. He also spent a winter teaching English in Costa Rica and Guatamala. Be kind to him this year as he just survived his first full winter on the Gentle Island's not so gentle winter.
Alan Stanley
Alan has just done a 180 career shift from blacksmith to systems analyst, and is also is a keen paddler who has built several beautiful wooden boats. While justly famous for his paddling, Alan is also an excellent cook and an invite for dinner is never to be missed. Our head instructor, you will most likely see Alan if you take one of our courses or clinics. Alan's goal is to become a Level Two instructor by the end of the summer.
Sean Molloy
Back for another summer at Outside Expeditions, Sean will be spreading his wings a bit this year by doing more guiding at our North Rustico location. Sean is OE"s resident academic, so be sure to ask him what degree he is working on now. He's completed a English degree at UPEI, a Master's in Folklore at Memorial and will be doing more studying this fall. In between, Sean has found time to hike the East Coast Trail, circumnavigate PEI by sea kayak, travel with Capt. Bartlett's schooner on a historical tour of Newfoundland and work in Alberta's oil patch.
Avery Arsenault
Avery will officially join us part-time in Brudenell, after having helped us out of many a staffing pinch last year! An avid paddler, Avery has raced with the PEI kayak team and has just graduated high school.
Adam Bowman
Adam guided full time with OE for the first time last year, but has sadly gone back to the real world with a 9-5 job. Luckily for us Adam will be back on a part-time basis on some evenings and weekends. Don't be too hard on him as this has allowed him to buy a sail boat to add to his other hobbies of kiteboarding, mountain biking and longboarding.
Val Poulin
This is Val`s first season with Outside Expeditions, and we`re excited to have her as a full time guide at our North Rustico location (almost as excited as Val is about living on the Island for the summer!). An experienced paddler, Val is in her 3rd year studying Outdoor Adventure Leadership at Laurentian University in Sudbury, Ontario. She loves everything to do with the outdoors, and in the off season works at the ski hill teaching snowboarding
Renee Montgomery
Renee Montgomery is very excited to be spending the summer on PEI, in Brudenell again after a 4+ year hiatus. Originally from Flat River, Renee first worked for Outside Expeditions in the summer of '02, with previous paddling experience in Flatwater race kayaking and canoeing. Renee now spends the 'off-season' in Northern Alberta working as a Land Surveyor, and, is happy to travel the country and share both homes with her 90-lb Great Pyrenees puppy, Brahm.
Quiller Sharrat
A dashing young man working at our Brudenell location this summer, this is Quiller`s first year with OE, but this guy is no stranger to the kayak. Growing up on the Montague River he developed his love for boats early on, which brought him to the Canada Games, where he represented PEI in many kayaking events. This summer he's looking forward to a fantastic summer of kayaking and countless outdoor activities.
Chris Hellyer
All the way from the east Coast of Australia, Chris is relaxing on the Island this summer after a year of adventure travelling. When he`s not pursuing his studies in Marine biology, Chris is keen on swimming, surfing, and of course, paddling. Ask him about his recent volunteer work in Central America! He loves to be typecast everything Aussie and always carries around a jar of Veggiemite
Jennifer OConnor
Jennifer is happy to be back on the Island, at our North Rustico location. This summer, she`ll be splitting her time between guiding tours and handling the day-to day office operations in the shop. An avid paddler, Jennifer also loves cycling on the Island trails and back-country hiking wherever she can find a challenging landscape. This fall she`ll be taking on a whole new adventure as she pursues her Bachelor of Education at St.Thomas University.
Lars Nilsson
This summer we are pleased to have Lars Nilsson joining our full time guide staff in North Rustico. Island raised, Lars is finishing his final year at Laurention University, specializing in Outdoor Adventure Leadership. His outdoor pursuits range from Paddling (of course!) and cycling to back country hiking, sailing and white water rafting. Ask him about his new love of stunt kites!
