Learning & Skill Building with Outside Expeditions

Find out how many ways there are to have fun on the water! Learn to kayak on the sheltered bays, rivers, and warm water beaches of Prince Edward Island. In just a couple of hours, our experienced and enthusiastic guides can teach you the basics - be it paddling technique, small craft safety, or skill-building.

Note: Learn to Kayak is available in both North Rustico and Brudenell Provincial Park. All other skills courses are only available in North Rustico.

Learn To Kayak! - 90 minutes

Learn the basics - from paddling skills to small-craft safety to choosing a kayak that fits. Proper techniques learned early will set you up for a long, enjoyable and injury-free paddling career.

Advanced Skills - 2 hours

Set up a lesson with one of our Paddle Canada certified instructors and we’ll tailor a session specifically to your interests. Self rescue, assisted rescue, surf launches and landings, rolling, recovery and support strokes, edging – come talk to us about what you’d like to learn and we’ll make it happen.

Flatwater Course – 9 am to 4 pm

With the Flatwater skills course, the basics of kayak handling, fit, navigation and stokes are covered: forward stroke, back stroke, draw strokes, sculling stroke, edging and bracing. We also cover a wet exit and self-rescue. Get rid of those bad habits, build confidence, and learn how easy it can be to paddle efficiently and safely.
