May 29, 2001 Trip Report
Participants: Allan Stanley, Pat Chan, John Wade (Swade), Shirley Wright, Andrew Murphy, Don MacDonald, Kipp Lemke, Wendell MacDowell, Nathan ?, Pam ?, Stephanie Miron-Fyfe, Pascal ?, and myself - Bryon Howard.
Experience Level: From beginner to advanced.
Weather: 5 degrees Celsius / 20 km wind from SW / grey skies
Animals:
Personal Thoughts / Reminders / Memories: We met in Rustico Harbour at Outside Expeditions across from the Lighthouse at the Court Brothers between 5:30pm and 6:30pm. All on the water at 6:30.
When all were on the water, we paddled south to the "Bull Pen" to get protection from the wind. We rafted-up, and Bryon did a short 10 minute instructional talk on the low brace.
Swade, Pam, Stephanie and Pascal spent most of the evening within in the Bull Pen - practising strokes. Shirley and others began doing intervals - but bailed after a bit.
Bryon, Andrew, Don and Allan were doing 2 min intervals - followed by 2 minutes of rest all the way to the "new" bridge - and most of the way back to the shop. (I think about 11 or 12 intervals.)
The tea was delicious!
Future Plans: Although windy in the beginning - the wind died out and we all had a wonderful time. While those who joined the 'interval training' session enjoyed it … from my reading - we were taking too much time for our rest. (should probably only take 30 seconds after 2 min of hard paddling.)
On June 5 Bryon and Pat are hoping to have surf conditions to practice launching and landing in surf.
Congratulations to Bryon's Adventure Racing team, Eureka! Ranch, on their 3rd place finish at Raid the North in Digby. They finished in just over 24 hrs. Also congrats go to the Red Rock Raiders who finished 13th.
