July 3, 2001 Trip Report
Participants: Don MacDonald, Pam Peters, Cindy Burton, Kipp Lemke, Pat, Pascal Gobeil, Calvin Des Roches, Barb Ramsay-Des Roches, Morgan Merritt, Jason Doiron, Alfred Gallant, Liesel Carlson, Shawn Driscoll
Experience Level: From beginner to advanced.
Weather: 15 degrees Celsius / windy - gusts to 30 km / Cloudy with thunder clouds looming!
Animals: I noticed 1 cormorant!
Personal Thoughts / Reminders / Memories: 'Where is everyone?' was the first question of most people arriving between 5 pm and 5:45 pm. My response, "It's July in PEI. Family and friends are here … folks are probably on their decks with beer in hand!"
From the workplace, or home in the yard … it looked like a terrible evening. However, for those who paddled - we know that no matter what the weather - you can't help but have a fantastic time playing in small boats.
We met in the Bull Pen at approximately 6:35 pm for a short session on the Low Brace Turn. Most of us paddled to the village … then to the ocean … out to North Rustico Main Beach.
Future Plans:
- At least half the group were practising rolling (in deep water) … but there were a lot of weak hip flicks happening! We should probably plan on doing a serious instructional rolling session some evening soon. ….hmmm … anyone know anyone interested in volunteering to teach this 'in-service' for the club?
- Due to popular request - we will push back our start time for the club. Lets plan on meeting for a short instruction session at 6:30 pm in the "Bull Pen" (instead of 6 pm). So then … continue to arrive anytime after 5 pm … and try to be on the water and in the Bull Pen by 6:30 pm. However, if you can't make it by 6:30 … you'll normally find someone to hook up with - there is always someone relatively near the shop.
- (For folks who have paid memberships - the earlier you arrive, the better choice of boat you will have. First come - first served! Unless you arrive by 5:50 pm (or you call to say you will be late) - we will not guarantee there will be a boat for you. Please try to call before 4 pm to let us know you will be late. Also, if you know you can't make it - we would appreciate knowing - so as not to hold a boat.
- Continue to be very careful in the channel - remember, those big boats are hard to stop and turn in the channel. (If they do slow down - there is a threat that they could get pushed into the wharf at the channel light.)
- July 17 is the last session for paid up members. There will be a new session beginning July 24 and running until October 2. Eleven sessions for just $95!
